Hi, I’m Meg Houghton (she/her)

I’m a Toronto-based Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), specialized in supporting women at midlife. My approach is trauma-informed prioritizing relationship, narrative, mindfulness, and somatic approaches. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in colleges and universities for two decades supporting student mental health, wellness and accessibility for students with disabilities.

Modern western culture works to disconnect women from their inner wisdom by imposing standards for what is acceptable according to colonial logics (a fundamentally hetero-patriarchal, racist, ableist, capitalist paradigm). Being raised in this culture has varying impacts depending on social location and life experiences, but ultimately it contributes to women being more vulnerable to stress, burn-out, grief, anxiety and depression. Life can feel particularly cruel at midlife with relationship and caregiving changes, occupational stress, and intense hormonal shifts. It can feel like a perfect storm.

I work with women to explore their relationship to unwanted symptoms and develop new ways to cope.  The healing pathway often involves developing a deeper conscious awareness of suppressed emotion, trauma impacts, and nervous system needs. For me, the therapeutic relationship is collaborative and creative, not “expert healer treating unwell client”.  Let’s work together to listen deeply to your internal wisdom and to move toward the congruence it desires.

I respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as part of Treaties 14 and that the government acted in bad faith in treaty dealings.

I do not use AI in my practice.
