Hi, I’m Meg Houghton (she/her)

I’m a Toronto-based Registered Psychotherapist (Qualifying), specializing in narrative, mindfulness and psychedelic-assisted approaches to mental health. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in colleges and universities for two decades supporting student mental health, wellness and accessibility for students with disabilities.

Modern western culture works to disconnect us from our inner wisdom and authenticity by imposing standards for what is acceptable according to colonial logics (a fundamentally hetero-patriarchal, racist, ableist, capitalist paradigm). Being raised in this poison has varying impacts for people, depending on social location and life experiences. We need courage to question the so-called truths of our culture, explore its impact and craft new possibilities for ourselves. With conscious commitment, we can learn how to be still, honour inner-wisdom, embrace emotions, and move at a pace that feels safe.

Anger, anxiety, or depression can take a front seat in our lives. I work with clients to explore their relationship to unwanted symptoms to reach for their deeper messages for where wounding is experienced. For me, the therapeutic relationship is collaborative and creative, not “expert healer treating unwell client”.  Let’s work together to listen deeply to your soul’s wisdom and to move toward the congruence it desires.

I respectfully acknowledge that I live and work on the ancestral lands of the Anishinaabe, The Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation, as part of Treaties 14 and that the government acted in bad faith in treaty dealings.
